BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is commonly injected into facial muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines), horizontal wrinkles of the forehead, and wrinkles at the corner of the eyes (Crow’s feet). BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments are performed so they can prevent the formation of dynamic wrinkles

BOTOX ® Cosmetic injections are administered in our Lake Mary office by Dr. Shoukas as a simple, nonsurgical treatment that is injected directly into the muscles of these problem areas.  It works by blocking nerve signals to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes these wrinkles to form.

BOTOX ® Cosmetic was introduced in 2002, and was the first botulinum toxin to be approved by the FDA to temporarily treat moderate to severe glabellar lines between the brows.

Aging skin and wrinkles result from a combination of many factors.  Upper facial wrinkles result from muscle contractions. When you concentrate, squint, or frown, the muscles of your face contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. After years of frequent contraction, those wrinkles can linger even after the muscles are at rest.

Dr. Shoukas will ask you about your goals to determine where to administer BOTOX® Cosmetic. To do this he may examine your ability to move certain muscles in your problem areas. The location, size, and use of these muscles that create wrinkles can vary among individuals.

The Treatment
 The administration of BOTOX® Cosmetic involves no anesthesia and can be preformed in our Lake Mary office. Discomfort is usually minimal and brief.

Dr. Shoukas  will administer a few tiny injections of BOTOX® Cosmetic directly into the muscles that cause those moderate-to-severe wrinkles.

The entire treatment takes approximately 10 minutes.
